Death of Rosa María Quiroga
Rosa María Quiroga died in La Paz (Bolivia) on Monday, 10th October 2005.
Rosa María was a great friend of ours, full of life, love and energy. Whether near or far, she was constantly and intensely involved in our work. She felt closely related to the Ayoreo.
As of 2002, and more so after 2003, she listened to, understood and wrote down life stories of Ayoreo men and women, some of whom related the cultural ways, events and intimacies of their life in the forest prior to making contact. The Ayoreo loved her dearly because of the tremendous sensitivity with which she carried out this work.
Rosa María was a member of the board of Iniciativa Amotocodie. We were happy and proud to have her among us with her strength, her commitment and her friendship.
She fell ill with cancer in December 2004.
Her partner in life, Bernardo Fischermann, is still with us as an external collaborator as well as a member of the Board. Rosa María´s two daughters, Paulina and Daniela, live and study in La Paz, Bolivia.
