Purchase of the 1st Plot of Land in Amotocodie
In June 2005, IAM was able to buy thof an area of tranquillity for the Ayoreo groups in voluntary isolation. These 3,740 has. are located in North Eastern Amotocodie and belong to the traditional habitat currently used by one of these groups. The purchased land is untouched forest and it is crossed by the region’s most important waterway.
The purchase was made thanks to the contributions of NC-IUCN (Dutch Chapter of the International Union for the Conservation of Nature) and an individual donor.
Jointly with UNAP and with the advice of the Ayoreo Totobiegosode who lived in the area until 1986, during the coming months IAM will prepare a Management Plan for the plot of land and the entire area. The purchased plot of land is also due to become one of the nuclei of the recently recognized Biosphere Reserve of t
e first plot of land in Amotocodie. This represents one step more towards the consolidation he Northern Chaco.
